Almond Blossom has a composition unlike any other of van Gogh's paintings, the branches of the almond tree seem to float against the shifting blue sky and dark lines outline the branches mimicking Japanese floral studies that van Gogh admired greatly. Almond trees were special to van Gogh, they represented awakening, new life and hope.
